Opel Zoo !

Last Saturday afternoon, we went to the Opel zoo, a 10 minutes drive from home. A couple of french friends with their 2,5 years old son met us there and we enjoyed a great sunny afternoon watching the animals, talking, keeping an eye on the kids playing in the playground, running after them or even preventing them from "falling" in the deers pit or the porcupines' one...

Revue en image de la visite / Journal in pictures from the tour:

Dromadaire / dromedary

Chameau: il a pris la pose! / Camel: he even posed for me!

Mini-poney

Il y avait même des jeux! / There is a playground!

Now, it's my turn!

Small farm with sheeps, goats, bunnies, cow, donkeys, etc.
We can come in the corral and Sophie felt in love with the
goats and two young sheeps that were so soft at caressing.

Then, we walked by the elephants enclosure, newly rebuilt a few months ago:

The youngest elephant said hello lifting his trunk when he saw a camera!

Another elephant showed me how to properly tear out grass with a trunk.

After the pachyderms, deers and does were on the menu:

The zoo owns many birds species, such as owls, but the wiring is too dense to take pictures. Happily the aviary let us see them more precisely. Otherwise, my friend Olivier and I felt under the spell of this pheasant (?) with his beautiful plumage.

Suite de la visite: / Next in the tour:

Kangourous / Kangaroos

Lamas

Les antilopes élands / The eland antilopes

The older they are, the more twisted their horns will be. Here, a young one.

This one was following the lens camera...

Hôtel pour insectes / Hostel for insects

In loving memory of Georg von Opel, the zoo founder.

A l'arrière-plan, Francfort. Au milieu c'est Kronberg.

Background: Frankfurt, in the middle Kronberg.

The red pandas (cuddled in the tree for a nap):

"J'étais jeune et phacochère..."
"When I was a young wart hog..."

The following animal is quite fascinating. Ah, porcupines! Deep reflexion with my friend Eva: "How do they reproduce???" These spikes are so long, hard and sharp!

L'enclos des suricates. Je "kiffe" ces animaux-là!
The meerkats: I love these animals!

It turned away his head each time he saw a camera!

La vie est belle! / Life's good!

The girafes' house (and also the zebras, the gnous, etc)

I couldn't take pictures of all the animals, I left some for next times. And since I bought the year's ticket for Gabriel and I, we will back very soon! By the way, my Poupou was sad we had to go back home, he wanted to play again and slide... Seeing how he collapsed from exhaustion in the car and slept like a log from 5:45pm until the following morning, I think he had enough excitement for the day!

For more informations about the Opel zoo, it's here (only in german).

And for the ones who don't understand german, the ticket for an adult is 13€ and 7€ for a kid between 3 and 14 years old. For the third children and so on, it's free. The year's ticket is highly recommended when we live nearby, and at the fourth visit we have amortized it. 45€ for an adult and 20€ for a child.

Many animations are scheduled all year long. I think we will go on Eater Monday's morning for the egg hunt...
When it's sunny, we can bring our picnic and have a barbecue at the designed areas. They are near the playground. A good idea for a family outing, in a ludic and instructive environnement and with toilets nearby!

A bientôt à l'Opel zoo!
See you soon in the Opel zoo!
